About Johnston Atoll

📍 ☀️ Clear 28°C now

Johnston Atoll is an unincorporated territory of the United States, under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force (USAF). The island is closed to public entry, and limited access for management needs is only granted by a letter of authorization from the USAF. A special use permit is also required from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to access the island by boat or enter the waters surrounding the island, which are designated as a National Wildlife Refuge and part of the Pacific Islands Heritage Marine National Monument. The Johnston Atoll National Wildlife Refuge extends from the shore out to 12 nautical miles, continuing as part of the National Wildlife Refuge System out to 200 nautical miles. The Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument extends from the shore out to 200 nautical miles. The isolated atoll has been under the control of the U.S. military since 1934.

How we make money

These sites are free to use. Many links to flights, hotels, products and services are affiliate links. If you click one and make a booking or purchase, the company may pay us a commission. It never adds to the price you pay.

We work with affiliate networks such as Travelpayouts. We don't charge companies to be listed, and partners can't pay to change our tips or advice. Commission can affect which companies appear on the site.

Prices and availability shown by partners change quickly, so always check the final price before you book. Fares and prices shown on our pages may be cached and out of date.

Our money, energy and broadband pages give general information and simple calculators only. They are not financial advice, and we don't currently compare insurance, loans or other regulated financial products.

Privacy notice

This website is run by Stuart Townsend. We collect as little as we can. Last updated October 2026.

What we collect

Other companies

Some content loads straight from other companies, who can see your IP address when it does: fonts from Google Fonts, photos from Wikipedia and Wikimedia, and partner search widgets. When you click an affiliate link, the partner and the affiliate network (for example Travelpayouts) record the visit so we can be paid. Their own privacy policies apply from that point.
